
Punjab,
the land of five rivers is famed worldwide for its farming culture. And for
the energetic and fun loving people of Punjub, Baisakhi is a festival which
is associated with the harvesting of Rabi crop and this is the time when
people thank God for good harvesting. It is also the festival which marked
the dawn of New Year in accordance with the Solar calendar. Sikh community
not only in Punjab but around the globe celebrate this festival with loads
of enthusiasm and joyousness.
When is Baishaki Celebrated?
Every year on I3th or 14 th April people belonging to Sikh community
commemorate this day with the founding of Khalsa by their tenth guru, Guru
Govind Singh. On the occasion of Baisakhi, they visit the gurudwaras, attend
the special prayer known as Baisakhi ardaas. There after they receive the
Kara ka prasad and sweet samolina and gorge on the Guru ka langar on behalf
of the Gurdwara. Later on people organizes Baisakhi processions under the
leadership of the Panj paras and sings devotional songs.
How is Baishaki Celebrated?
People wear new dresses, exchanges gifts with their dear ones and invites
their friends and relatives for lunch or dinner. Some of the famous culinary
dishes which are associated with Baisakhi are Makki ki roti, Sarson da saag,
Pindi Chana, Battura, Til Gajak, Carrot halwa and last but not the least Dry
fruit kheer.
Young boys and girls wears the colorful traditional attire and performs the
famous Bhangra and Gidda dance respectively on the beats of the their folk
music and dhols to celebrate it. Every year, in many places Baisakhi fairs
are organized to add an additional color to the festive mood. People from
from each and every corner of India throng in these fairs to enjoy every
moment of Baisakhi.
Which are the major places of Baishaki Fiesta?
Baisakhi is festival which is mostly celebrated in Northern India, but in
other parts of India it is celebrated under different names such as Rongali
Bihu in Assam, Nav Brsha in West Bengal, Puthandu in TamilNadu and Pooram
Vishu in Kerela. Despite of such different names, the true and main essence
of the festival remain the same. It is festival to celebrate the communal
brotherhood. So it is our duty to maintain the glory of Baisakhi and
celebrate it in a gaiety atmosphere forgetting all our grievances and
worries.
