Diwali CelebrationIndia is a land of “Unity in Diversity”. Due to its vast diversification in religion, language, customs and traditions, every day is special in some or other way. People here always be in a festive mood and welcomes every season with loads of enthusiasm and gaiety. India is a colorful land of festival and fairs. And these festivals and fairs has become an integral part of our daily life and enables us to enhance the communal brotherhood in the society.

Some of the major festivals of India which are celebrated with utmost joyfulness and enthusiasm are Diwali, Holi, Dusshera, Durga puja, Janmashtami, Id, Christmas and many more. Diwali which is also known as “festival of light”, celebrate the homecoming of Lord Rama along with his wife Sita and younger brother Lakshman from the exile of 14 years. People used to decorate their house with earthen lamps and colorful candles to avoid the darkness of the Amavatsya (day of no moon).

Holi, the festival of colors is celebrated with all its charm in each and every corner of India. In this festival people of all ages throw powder color or colored water on each other and gorge on delicious gujia and thandai.

Dushera which is celebrated mostly in the northern India to mark the won of Lord Rama over the Ravan. On the last day of Dusshera, large effigy of Ravana is burn as symbol of goods win over the bad.

Durga puja is the biggest festival of Bengali community and celebrated mostly in West Bengal, Assam and Tripura. In this festival Godess Durga comes to earth to end the life of the demon Mahisashur and safeguard the lives of other deities. Bengali people anxiously wait for this festival and wears new clothes, offer anjalis and gorge on Khichri.

Janamasthami is another major Hindu festival. It is celebrated to mark the birth of Lord Krishna on the eight day of Shravan month.

Id and Christmas are the two major festivals of Muslim and the Christian community. Nowadays, these festivals are not only restricted to the particular religion but also celebrated by the people of other community. These festivals plays a vital role to maintain the integrity and unity of our country.
